Non-profit awards Alaska Airlines Scholarship to Aliza Green from Elkins Park, PA

Canton, Mass. (November 4, 2009 )

Tourism Cares, a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the travel experience for future generations, awarded the Alaska Airlines Scholarship, (part of the American Society of Travel Agents Scholarship Fund), in the amount of $1,000, to Aliza Green from Elkins Park, Pennsylvania. Each year, the prestigious scholarships are presented to deserving travel, tourism and hospitality students at schools across the United States and Canada.

"Tourism Cares is delighted to present this scholarship to Aliza in recognition of her commitment to her travel, tourism, and hospitality education," said Bruce Beckham, Executive Director at Tourism Cares. "Thanks to the generous donors whose contributions have made this scholarship award possible, motivated students and aspiring industry professionals, like Aliza, are rewarded for their excellence and encouraged to pursue their future endeavors in this industry," he added.

In addition to the monetary award, Green will be given the opportunity to attend the Tourism Cares Experience the Industry Student Program at the National Tour Association's Annual Convention, held mid-November in Reno, Nevada.

Green's interest in the tourism and hospitality industry was the natural result of her lifelong travels and cross-cultural experiences, which inspired her to become a chef. In five years, she hopes to lead culinary tours of her own with a focus on markets, ingredients, and herbs and spices. Aliza is a James Beard Award-winning author of 10 cookbooks and an acclaimed chef in Italian and Mediterranean cuisines.

"I am honored to have been selected to receive the Alaska Airlines Scholarship from Tourism Cares, which will help me get started in a new career direction in the wonderful world of travel and tourism," Green stated.

Green graduated in July 2009 from the Certified Tour Director Program at the International Tour Management Institute. She is pursuing a career as a Tour Director in international culinary tourism.

Tourism Cares is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that benefits society by preserving the travel experience for future generations by awarding grants to natural, cultural, and historic sites worldwide; by awarding academic and professional development scholarships to students of hospitality and tourism; and by organizing volunteer restoration efforts to restore tourism-related sites in need of care and rejuvenation.
