Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all at ITMI.
I really appreciated the e mail addresses of my # 131
classmates you have on file.  Thank you so much.

My wish for you is in the musical words of Bing Crosby singing: Chess Nuts Roasting By an Open Fire…
…you remember the rest???
Jack Frost nipping at your…
Songs being sung by the fire…
…you take it from there.
…the wishes are all within!

Well, I spent my new year in 2007 in the city of Voronezh, Russia.  It was quite an experience and one of the motivating factors behind my decision to try and travel for a living.  Being the only non Russian speaking guest was awkward at first, but it’s funny how language just doesn’t seem to be a barrier during holiday sharing.  Holidays, family, and coming together crosses all cultural boundaries.  Although I was the outsider (from a former cold war enemy, no less!) everyone treated me with kindness and respect and I was made to feel most welcome.  It was a wonderful experience that I’ll never forget.

I believe that everyone can benefit from similar travel experiences.  I know that I’m a more tolerant and well rounded person because of my travel abroad.  Here’s hoping I can continue my travels in the future.
Happy holidays to all!  Looking forward to a great 2010!

I have been lucky enough to be at home during most of the Christmas holidays since I have been in the travel business.
However, one Christmas some years back I flew into Dallas to host Redskins fans attending the Christmas Day game with the Cowboys.
Since we were staying at the Redskin’s hotel I expected the usual loud almost unruly fans.  And there were a good number of them.
But when my guests gathered on game day for the group breakfast I quickly realized one family seemed different somehow as they filed in. While working the room as the guests were getting settled I kept that group of folks of various ages in sight out of the corner of my eye. There was sort of a reserved effervescence about them.
When I finally came to their table I was introduced to their guest of honor. Their son, older brother and grandson had just flown in from Germany where he was on R and R from combat duty in Iraq.
It was their special time together and the gift of the Texas trip was for him.
The Redskins may have gone home without a win that year, but one family who had come together for the holiday surely were winners.
I think of him and that family at Christmas.  I hope he made it home for good and is safe and celebrating subsequent holidays with the ones he loves.
A wish for all who are so far away from the ones they love this year.
There are challenges this year for us all. So may we all have great family and friends time together this season and a good year ahead.
Best to all at ITMI and relflective quiet thoughts for Kathy’s and Dr. Bill’s families and all others who celebrate with memories.

It was my pleasure to help put together a 5k walk for St. Jude’s Hospital in Milpitas last month.  I was in charge of the volunteers.  Helping an organization that saves childrens lives is the best thing ever.

Hello All Grads of ITMI….
Christmas at the Von Trapp Family Lodge is a great experience.  Sleigh rides in the snow.  A french chef in the kitchen.  The hotel has Christmas trees everywhere.  Each tree is decorated in a different theme.  The biggest experience is a sing-a-long with the real Von Trapp Family members.  This is an experience not to miss.

Merry Christmas to everyone,
I would like to share a group Christmas at the Empress Hotel in Victoria.  The experience is like a fairy tail.  We were there during Christmas.  Dinner’s at the hotel were unbelievable.  It snowed during the night and added to our experience.  Burchart Gardens was covered in lights and the snow added to the Christmas experience.  Midnight service at the Anglican Cathedral  with the choir from England was a must see.  Meals at the Empress were like a medieval time in England.  I was able to experience this trip three times.
