Tour Director / Tour Guide Resource Library – Western National Parks

Dear Randy & Ted,

The best, most thorough book on the Grand Canyon is “The Grand Canyon Answer Book,” by Lafayette DeMente. This book was first published in 1989, and while it is an old book, I continue to find it my best resource book for doing tours in the Grand Canyon. The Table of Contents is layed out so every question a guide might have about the Grand Canyon can easily be looked up and answered. It is a paperback book, with maps, distances, times, and history:

“Ours has been the first, and doubtless will be the last party of whites to visit this profitless locality. It seems intended by nature that the Colorado River along the greater part of its lonely and majestic way, shall be forever unvisited and undisturbed.”

Lt. Joseph C. Ives, 1861, wrote in his report to the U.S. Army.
